- According to Jacob's military pension report dated April 5, 1894, "Jacob Wenzel, Co. G, Harris Lt. Cav. NY was enrolled Oct. 1, 1862 [sic], and M.O. with Co. June 23, 1865, as Jacob Wentzel as of Co. M 2 NY Cav. to which transf'd from Co. G 2 NY Cav. to which desig'n org'n was changed in Nov. or Dec. 1861.
From Enl. to M.O., he held the rank of Priv. Sergt. Corpl. Com. Sergt. Sergt & Com. Sergt. and during that period the rolls show him present except as follows: Apr. 30/63 on detached serv. with mule train since apr. 29/63. Dec 31/63 Absent sick in Carver U.S. Gen. Hospt. Nov. 26/63. Apr. 30/64 absent on furlough by reason of er enlistment since Apr 1/64.
"The medical records show him treated as follows: As Wensel, Sgt. Co. G 2 NY Cav. Nov. 7 to 11.63 Diarrhea; As Jacob Wensel, -- Nov. 17 to 22. 63 Debility malarial fever; as Jacob Wenzel,--, Nov. 23, 63 to Dec. 31.1863. Ac. Bronchitis, ret'd to duty. Nothing add'l found."
